The Uffington White Horse geoglyph dates back to the Bronze Age (3,000 years ago) and is linked to many legends.

One of the most popular tells that it represents the dragon slain by Saint George on the nearby Dragon Hill: it is said that the dragon, carried onto the hill by two twins, left a mark that prevented the grass from growing back.
Another, older legend associates the figure with the Celtic goddess Epona, a deity with equine features worshiped for her powers of fertility, healing, and death. According to tradition, a woman who spent a night on the horse’s eye would conceive a child.
