The cart ruts of St. George’s Bay, near Birżebbuġa, Malta, stretch along the rocky coastline before disappearing into the sea, just a short distance from the Bronze Age site of Borġ in-Nadur.
The exact spot is located near Triq Għar Dalam, easily accessible on foot or by car, at the coordinates 35.831483° N, 14.530728° E.
These cart ruts, now partially submerged, were likely created when sea levels were lower. This is one of many clues that may point to a civilization that existed before the rise in sea levels. It’s important to keep in mind that when searching for possible civilizations dating back to the so-called Younger Dryas period—i.e., more than 11,000 years ago—one should look for evidence of structures now located at least 100–120 meters (328–394 feet) below present sea level.
