The sanctuary of Monte Sant’Angelo is located in the province of Foggia and has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since June 2011. Also known as the Celestial Basilica, it was very important to the Lombards, becoming part of the territories of the Duchy of Benevento.

According to tradition, the sanctuary of Monte Sant’Angelo was consecrated by Archangel Michael himself and has been venerated since around the year 500. It forms part of the Line of Saint Michael, a remarkably straight alignment on the map, which, according to legend, represents the fall inflicted by Archangel Michael upon Satan during their glorious battle.
